FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For the second time this season, Methodist's
Isabella Graf was named the USA South Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
The freshman from Harrington Park, N.J. helped lead the Monarchs (17-2) to a 4-0 week, including Sunday's 6-3 win over Christopher Newport which clinched the USA South Regular Season Championship for the Monarchs. She earned a 3-0 record at the No.3 singles spot and a 3-1 doubles mark last week for the Monarchs.
Graf opened the week with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kim Kelimeier of Guilford and added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bristy Parker of N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday. In the Monarchs' title-clinching win over the Captains, Graf rallied from a one-set deficit to earn a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over Jodi Noland.
In doubles, the team with Hilary Petruska to post an 8-3 win over Kleimeir/Natalie Sutton of Guilford at No. 2. In a 9-0 win over William Peace, she and Petruska played at No. 1 and earned an 8-0 win over Zoe Littman/Kristen Edwards before the duo notched an 8-2 win over Samia Kacher/Tija Riley of N.C. Wesleyan. Her only loss of the week was an 8-2 setback to Noland/Jackie Gaine of CNU.
Methodist will begin play in the USA South Tournament when it takes on No. 8 William Peace on Friday at 2:00 pm on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, N.C.
