FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Methodist's
Rachel Purser has been named the USA South Women's Tennis Player of the Week the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Purser helped the Monarchs to a 1-1 weekend by winning both of her matches at No. 5 singles, while also picking up a win at No. 3 doubles. MU opened the weekend by defeating Virginia Wesleyan, 6-3, then fell to Salisbury, 7-2, and now sits at 1-2 on the season.
In the Monarchs' win over VWC, Purser was 6-1, 6-0 winner over Hannah Parent at No. 5 singles. Purser once again played at No. 5 against Salisbury, posting a 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 10-5 over Katie Youlios. She also teamed with
Emily Talley to record an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they host Mary Baldwin at 10:30 am and Averett at 2:00 pm.
