ATLANTA, Ga. – The Methodist men's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Regional Championships on Saturday evening.
The Monarchs had a total of seven singles players taking part in the two draws, while four doubles teams competed in their respective draws.
Junior
Duncan Miller, seeded seventh out of 64 in the main singles draw, advanced to the Round of 16 before being defeated. He opened the tournament with a come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Adam Henderson of Emory. In the Round of 32, Miller defeated Matt Plumley of Rhodes, 7-5, 7-5, before suffering a 6-4, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Elliot Kahler of Emory.
Freshman
Taylor Buchholz made it to the Round of 32 in main singles draw, defeating Matt Nelson, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5, before falling to Eliot Baltt of Rhodes, 6-4, 6-4.
In the “B” singles draw, two Monarchs advanced to the quarterfinal round before being eliminated. Freshman
Max Mancini posted a 7-6, 6-3 win over Tony Damaia of Birmingham-Southern then knocked off Zac Baldwin of Huntingdon, 2-6, 6-2, 10-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarters, he was ousted by Bobby Foroughian of Huntingdon, 2-6, 7-6, 10-2.
Sophomore
Dillon Sullivan mirrored Mancini's run in the “B” draw, posting a 6-0, 6-4 win over Stewart Thrash of Birmingham-Southern and a 6-2, 6-3 win over Larry Pritchett of Huntingdon before being eliminated by Nick Roby of Oglethorpe, 6-4, 6-1.
On the doubles side, the Monarchs had one tandem make it out of the first round of the “A” draw as Sullivan and junior
Lawrence Salmon advanced to the quarterfinal round before falling to the No. 2 seeded duo of Kahler/Wagner of Emory (8-2). In the first round, Sullivan and Salmon posted an 8-6 win over the team of Blatt and Plumley of Rhodes, and followed that with another 8-6 win, this time over Rees and Solomonoff of Millsaps.

Teal Howard also advanced to the quarterfinals in the “B” doubles draw. They opened with an 8-6 win over Pirtle/Chaffee of Huntingdon and followed that with an 8-4 win over Silverberg/Riza of Piedmont before being eliminated by Zhao/Hirsch of Olgethorpe.
The Monarchs will conclude the fall portion of their season when they host the three-day Methodist 2-of-3 Men's Challenge beginning on Friday.
