MONTGOMERY, Ala. --
Hillary Petruska remained unbeaten and advanced to the finals of the “B” singles draw to highlight the Methodist women's tennis team's performance on the second day of the ITA Regional Championships on Saturday.
Petruska, who won her first two matches on Friday to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round, dispatched Mary Catharine Horne of Sewanee, 6-0; 6-1, in the quarters, before taking down Horne's teammate, Hastings Johnson, 7-5; 6-3 in the semifinals to advance to the Sunday's finals. In Sunday's final, she will take on a third competitor from Sewanee, Kate Johnson, at 1:00 pm.
Petruska also remained alive in the consolation draw of the “A” doubles bracket as her and
Isabella Graf recorded a pair of wins on the day to advance to the Sunday's finals.
In the consolation bracket of the “A” singles draw,
Rachel Purser remains alive for the Monarchs and has played her way into the semifinal round. She posted an 8-4 win over Meredith Lawrence of Sewanee followed by an 8-3 win over Britni Thibodeau of Huntingdon to move on to Sunday's semifinals. Also in the “A” consolation bracket, both
Kelli Shelton and
Isabella Graf went 1-1 on the day, eventually falling in the quarterfinal round.
Stephanie Hunter and Kat Meindl dropped their lone match of the day in the “B” doubles draw, falling 8-6 to Elske Parker and Mariah Smith of Sewanee in the semifinals.
The Monarchs will wrap up play at the ITA Regional Championships on Sunday.
