Methodist Women's Tennis in Action at ITA Regionals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Methodist women's tennis team took part in the first day of the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Huntingdon College on Friday.
 
Several Monarchs remain alive in the tournament, highlighted by Stephanie Hunter and Kat Meindl's run in the “B” doubles bracket. The duo posted a pair of 8-2 in win in their opening two matches to advance to Saturday's semifinal round. Stacey Brooks and Kelli Shelton opened with an 8-4 win in the same bracket, before dropping an 8-3 match in the quarterfinal round.
 
In the “A” doubles bracket, Isabella Graf and Hillary Petruska dropped their opening match, 8-2, while Rachel Purser and Emily Talley produced an 8-0 win in the round of 32 before seeing their run end in the round of 16 with an 8-0 loss. Graf and Petruska received a bye in the opening round of the “A” doubles consolation bracket to advance to Saturday's play.
 
In singles play, Purser opend with a 6-3; 6-1 loss to Lauren Pinsky of Emory before rebounding to win a 4-6; 7-5; 10-6 match in the consolation bracket to remain alive. Two other Monarchs received byes and remain alive in the consolation bracket of the “A” draw after dropping their opening matches. Shelton fell, 6-1; 6-0 to Catharine Harris of Emory and Isabella Graf dropped a 7-5; 6-0 match to Amelia McIsaac of Rhodes.
 
Talley opened play in the “B” draw with a 6-1; 6-0 win over Deidre Corbin of Huntingdon and followed that with a 4-6; 6-3; 6-0 win over Elyse Smith of Rhodes to remain unbeaten. Petruska also remained unbeaten in the “B” draw, with a win by default followed by a 7-6(4); 4-6; 6-2 victory over Abby Tudor of Centre.
 
Hunter produced a 6-1; 6-2 win over Morgan Reed of Piedmont in the opening round of the “B” draw before falling, 6-0; 6-1, to Elska Parker of Sewanee. Brooks also fell in the opening round, dropping a 6-1; 6-0 mathc to Kate Johnson of Sewanee.
 
 Play on day two resumes on Saturday at 8:00 am.
