FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Eight Methodist student-athletes arrived at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Claremont Mudd Scripps in Claremont, Calif.. 

Earlier this week the NCAA announced the lists of student-athletes qualified to compete based on performances during the season. [Men's Qualifiers] [Women's Qualifiers]

On the men's side, junior Pierson Singleton qualified for the long jump with the eighth best mark in the country. He boasts a season best 7.34 meters and returns to the Championships after earning All-American honors last year with a seventh place finish.

The Methodist women enter the Championships ranked sixth in the country. Senior Ashlynn Chavis has qualified in three events including her top ranked time in the 100 meters at 11.83 seconds. She also boasts the third best mark in the long jump at 6.06 meters and combined with teammates Erica Powell, Marlena Rodriguez and Bria Wilson to qualify for the 4x100 meter relay with the second fastest time at 46.58 seconds. Wilson also qualified in the 100 meters with the 15th best time at 12.06 seconds. Brittanie Morris will compete in both the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles with the 11th and 8th best times respectively. Yvonne Goodwyn makes her first trip to the NCAA Championships qualifying in the shot put with the 13th best mark in the country this season.

Last year, Chavis won the long jump and the 100 meters and will look to defend her titles. Chavis and Rodriguez return as members of the 2011 NCAA Championship 4x100 meter relay as well.
