FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Two Methodist football players were honored by the USA South as the conference announced its Players of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore kicker
Cody Ausherman was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week and sophomore linebacker
Bryan Bing was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week following Saturday's, thrilling, 26-23 overtime win at LaGrange.
Ausherman played a key role in the Monarchs' come-from-behind win, as he booted a game-tying 45-yard field goal as time expired in regulation, then connected on a game-winning 23-yard attempt on MU's first possession in overtime. On the day, he tied a school record with four field goals made (4-4), connecting from 37 and 34 yards out as well. The 45-yarder was a career long. He also made good on both his PAT attempts. Ausherman is now 9-of-11 on field goal attempts this season.
Bing earned the league's top defensive player award for the week after racking up 17 tackles (9 solo), including 3.5 tackles for loss (-16 yds) as the MU defense allowed just 250 yards of total offense to the Panthers. His 17 stops were the most by a Methodist player since Antonio Bartee totaled 19 tackles against Ferrum in 2008. For the season, Bing leads the Monarchs with 72 total tackles and is second with 12.0 tackles for loss (-42 yds).
