PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. -- The Methodist men's cross country team earned a fourth-place finish, while the women's team took seventh at the 2012 USA South Cross Country Championships at Hagan Stone Park on Saturday afternoon.
For the men,
Sydney Machokoto earned First Team All-USA South honors with a seventh-place finish (28:47.86), while
Kenesha Bigelow earned third team all-conference laurels by virtue of her 20th-place finish in 27:06.20.
Christopher Newport won both the men's and women's team events. The Captains totaled 15 points to win the men's race and were followed by Piedmont (75), Maryville (86), Methodist (100), Averett (115) and LaGrange (147). On the women's side, CNU totaled 26 points and was followed by Meredith (65), Mary Baldwin (84,Maryville (98), Piedmont (131), LaGrange (176) and Methodist (180). CNU's Raymond Gamache was the men's individual winner, finishing the 8k course in 26:26.60, while Mary Baldwin's Sophia Stone captured the women's race in 21:59.65, almost 2:30 faster than the second-place finisher.
For the men, following Machokoto were Nathaniel Gabler, who added a Top-20 finish, crossing the line in 19th with a time of 31:07.74.
Serge Iraguha finished in 30th place with a time of 33:45.82 and Josh Dugas (34:35.32 - 32nd) and
Donte Smith (36:08.48 - 37th) rounded out the Top 5 runners for the Monarchs.
On the women's side,
Kayla Beavers followed Bigelow with a finish in 41st place and a time of 30:04.01. Kimberly Brown finished the course in 33:44.05 to place 56th and
Courtney Bartlett (42:42.14 - 67th) and
Tamra Turner (45:36.77 - 69th) rounded out the Methodist competitors.
