COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Methodist University track and field team traveled north to compete at the University of Maryland's Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. The women's team combined to finish 10th while the men placed 15th overall.
Three Methodist women qualified for the 60 meter finals led by
Ashlynn Chavis who finished sixth in 7.80 seconds and
Bria Wilson who finished 13th in 7.91 seconds.
Ruby Blackwell placed 15th in 8.09 seconds. Blackwell came back and finished sixth in the 200 meters in 25.92 seconds and 16th in the 400 meters in 1:00.38.
Brittanie Morris finished eighth in the 60 meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.95 seconds. Chavis finished third in the long jump behind two unattached competitors in 5.70 meters. Wilson was eighth in a personal best 5.51 meters.
On the men's side,
Calvon Bowden finished 14th in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.71 seconds and
Darrell Hamilton was eighth in the high jump clearing 1.94 meters.
Pierson Singleton finished second in the long jump leaping 7.05 meters behind just one unattached competitor before following up with a 13th place finish in the triple jump at 12.22 meters.
Adonis Kirkland paced the throwers with a 16th place finish in the shot put (12.98 meters) and a personal best in the weight throw to place 14th with a throw of 11.51 meters.
The Monarchs will be back in action next weekend when they compete at both the Liberty Open and the Niswonger Invitational.
