GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist University track and field team used the Aggie Classic as the final tune up in preparation for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Monarchs improved a number of performances in the final meet prior to the NCAA meet.
Ashlynn Chavis broke her own NCAA record in the long jump with a leap of 6.25 meters or 20' 6". Chavis finished fifth in the 100 meters with a new personal best 11.67 seconds while
Ruby Blackwell was fourth with a new school record time of 11.66 seconds. The two times are leading Division III this season and rank second and third in NCAA Division III all-time.
The 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Chavis, Blackwell,
Marlena Rodriguez and
Erica Powell set a new school record finishing fifth in 46.62 seconds. The quartet currently has the fastest time in Division III this season.
The Methodist women currently have the top times in the 4x100 meter relay, the 200 meter dash, the best distance in the long jump and the top two times in the 100 meters heading into the NCAA Championships.
On the men's side, the 4x100 meter relay team made up of
Pierson Singleton,
Reggie Scales,
Brandon Kidd and
Greg Bailey finished ninth with a provisional time of 41.92 seconds.
