FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Former Methodist pitcher Blake Maxwell will wrap up spring training today after making four appearances with the Boston Red Sox this spring.
Maxwell has pitched four scoreless innings giving up just one hit with four strikeouts. He is among a handful of minor leaguers that traveled with the Red Sox to Houston. The team will take on the Texas Rangers Wednesday in a final exhibition before they kick off opening day on Friday.
Maxwell spent three years with the Monarchs and set the school record for career saves with 22 before being drafted by the Red Sox in
the 2005 Major League Amateur Draft. Maxwell has spent the last four seasons playing in the Red Sox organization, most recently for the Portland Sea Dogs.
Maxwell is just one of 21 former Methodist baseball players to play professionally. (
