FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced the preseason polls for men's and women's soccer as well as volleyball.
The men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the 2010 poll. Christopher Newport University was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference men's soccer title. Last fall, the Captains captured the program's second consecutive USA South Regular Season Championship and their first-ever Conference Tournament crown. CNU received six of seven first place votes (36 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
The winners of five USA South Regular Season Championships, N.C. Wesleyan College, finished a second in the balloting with 31 points and the final first place vote. Averett University placed third in the poll with 26 points while Methodist followed in fourth with 21 points. The men's soccer regular season gets underway on Wednesday, September 1 as six of the Conference's seven teams are in action. [

The women's soccer team was selected to finish fifth this season. Christopher Newport University was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic Conference women's soccer title in 2010. The Captains are the defending USA South Tournament Champions. Last season's tournament crown was the program's fourth in the last six years. Christopher Newport received eight of ten first place votes (80 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Meredith College, the defending USA South Regular Season Champions, finished second in the balloting with 74 points and the remaining two first place votes. In third place, Greensboro College and Shenandoah University shared the spot with 58 points each. Rounding out the top-half of the poll was Methodist University with 49 points. The women's soccer regular season gets underway on Wednesday, September 1 when five of the league's ten teams face non-conference opponents. [

The Methodist volleyball team was picked fourth in the poll. Christopher Newport University was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic Conference volleyball title in 2010. The Captains have captured at least a share of six consecutive regular season crowns. Christopher Newport received nine of the ten first place votes (81 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Averett University placed second in the poll with 69 points and the final first place vote while N.C. Wesleyan College, last year's USA South Tournament runner-up, finished in third with 64 points. Methodist University and Meredith College rounded out the top-half of the poll with 56 and 44 points, respectively. The volleyball regular season gets underway on Wednesday, September 1 as six of the league's ten schools are in action. [
