FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has released their Scholar-Athletes for the 2009-10 year including Methodist University women's tennis. The team received the ITA All-Academic Team award while five individuals were recognized as Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). The Monarchs qualified based on the team's cumulative grade point average.
Student-athletes must
be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters in order to qualify for ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
Heather Brayton,
Kaitlin Flaherty,
Jennifer Hamel,
Katherine Meindl and
Rachel Purser all qualified for the Monarchs. The student-athletes helped Methodist to the 2010 USA South Regular Season and Tournament Championships.
The Monarchs will kick off the 2010-11 season by hosting the Methodist Invitational Sept. 18-19.
