FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist University head football coach Jim Sypult has announced the hiring of Zach Hufford as a new assistant coach this season.
"Zach is a bright, young coach who will work well for the future transition," Sypult said. "His experience in recruiting relates to our philosophy. We are fortunate to have a man of his caliber and look forward to successful seasons with him."
Hufford will join the defensive staff this year leading the safeties. He comes to Methodist from Heidelberg University after recently finishing his master's degree and serving as a graduate assistant for the past two seasons.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Coach Sypult and the rest of the staff," Hufford said. "I know we have a chance to win games and I'm excited to join the Methodist family."
Hufford served as the defensive backs coach at Heidelberg while also assisting with scouting and strength and conditioning. Prior to joining the Heidelberg staff, Hufford was the Co-Defensive Coordinator at Mohawk High School in Sycamore, Ohio.
"I am here to work hard and to do my part to make sure our players excel both on and off the field," Hufford added.
Hufford graduated from Heidelberg with a bachelor's degree in health, physical education and recreation/sport management before finishing with his masters of education this spring.
