FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Each year, the Methodist Department of Athletics honors the male and female student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade point average.

There was a tie on both the men's and women's side with four student-athletes earning recognition. Men's soccer player Stephen Fox and baseball player Brian Inghram will receive the Male Scholar Athletes of the Year award.  Cross country and track athlete Kristyn Zeiler and basketball and lacrosse player Dawn Sanderson have been named the Female Scholar Athletes of the Year.

The Scholar Athletes of the Year are presented to the student-athletes with the highest grade point average and must be full-time students and varsity athletes.  The student-athletes will be honored during the fall convocation ceremony, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m.

Originally from West Palm Beach, Fla., Stephen Fox achieved a 3.91 cumulative grade point average in his junior year to earn his third straight Scholar Athlete of the Year award.  Fox saw action in 14 games for the men's soccer team during the 2009 season while tallying one assist from the defense. Fox is pursuing a degree in business administration with a concentration in sport management.

Also earning a 3.91 cumulative grade point average, Brian Inghram recently completed his junior year. A native of Chesapeake, Va., Inghram started every game at shortstop this season hitting .375 with 53 RBI. He earned USA South First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region recognition while also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team. Inghram is majoring in Biology.

Kristyn Zeiler and Dawn Sanderson both earned a 4.00 grade point average this year.  Zeiler was a standout for the cross country and track and field teams earning Scholar Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. She was named the USA South Runner of the Year in cross country as a junior while earning Mason Dixon All-Conference honors in both indoor and outdoor track. A native of Lutherville, Md., Zeiler is a pre-physician's assistant major and earned First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition.

Also a junior, Sanderson competed for both the basketball and lacrosse teams while balancing a perfect grade point average. Coming to Methodist from Brighton, Colo. and seeking a degree in mathematics, Sanderson played in every basketball game and started in 26. She scored 221 points and a career high 164 rebounds on the court and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team. During the spring, Sanderson started in 12 lacrosse games while leading the team in ground balls and caused turnovers. Her efforts earned her Second Team All-Conference honors.
