Methodist Finishes Strong at NCAA Track and Field Championships

Ruby Blackwell wins the 200 meter dash

BEREA, Ohio - The Methodist track and field team finished strong at the 2010 NCAA Track and Field Championships with the women finishing 10th overall.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team made up of Pierson Singleton, Stefan Johnson, Cedric McGill, Greg Bailey recovered from a bad handoff to finish third overall in 41.20 seconds. All four student-athletes will earn All-American recognition for their top-8 finish.

Ruby Blackwell finished fourth in the 100 meters in 11.85 seconds and followed up with taking the top podium in the 200 meters in a school record time of 23.80 seconds. Blackwell earns her first national championship as just a freshman.

"Ruby's performance was nothing more than outstanding," head coach Duane Ross said. "Her future is very bright."

Bailey also earned All-American honors in the 200 meter dash finishing seventh overall in 21.95 seconds.

The Methodist women's team combined to earn 21 points for a 10th place finish. Blackwell and Ashlynn Chavis earned all points in just three events between the two of them.

"I'm very proud of our student-athletes," Ross added. "They came here and performed exceptionally well. We are a very young team with everyone returning. Methodist track and field is making a statement nationally."
