LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Methodist track and field team traveled to Liberty University for the Liberty Invitational on Saturday.
Greg Bailey won the 100 meters and 200 meters qualifying for the NCAA Championships in both. He finished the 100 meters in 10.58 seconds and broke his own school record with the top time in the nation thus far at 21.26 seconds.
Cedric McGill finished second in the 100 meters in 10.69 seconds also qualifying while
Stefan Johnson qualified in the 200 meters finishing in 21.75 seconds. McGill and Johnson both finished in the top 10 for the 100 and 200.
Lloyd Bronner placed ninth in the 800 meters in 2:00.34 and
Aaron Holmes ran the 400 meter hurdles in 57.75 seconds. The 4x100 meter relay team made up of McGill, Johnson,
Pierson Singleton and Bailey finished second in 41.54 to qualify for the NCAA meet. Singleton placed seventh in the long jump (6.77 meters) while
Chauncey Edwards was seventh in the triple jump (13.41 meters).
On the women's side,
Ruby Blackwell led the team with NCAA qualifying performances in the 100 meters (12.23 seconds) and 200 meters (24.62 seconds). Blackwell's 200 time broke Danielle Baker's school record that had stood for 22 years. The women also had top-20 performances in the triple jump, shot put and discus throw.
The Monarchs will compete again next Saturday, April 10.
