Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Neumann College traveled 448 miles to open their 2010 campaign in what everyone hoped would be sunny and warm Fayetteville, N.C., but 40 degree temperatures and intermittent rain made for undesirable conditions.
The Knights (1-0) opened the scoring with a quick goal, but Methodist sophomore
Jasmine Stephens evened the score in the sixth minute. Both teams exchanged goals again before Neumann took the the 3-2 lead. Stephens tied the game at three and freshman
Alexa Veeder scored with 10:07 remaining to give the Monarchs (0-2) the 4-3 lead at halftime.
Sophomore
Abby Harmon fed Veeder early in the second half to increase the Methodist advantage, but the two teams exchanged goals again before Methodist junior
Amber Jurkovac converted a free position shot from the 8-meter for the 7-5 lead.
Neumann scored three consecutive goals to take the 8-7 lead with 10:07 to play, but Jurkovac responded with her second goal of the day to tie the game. Neumann won the ensuing draw, but a turnover gave the ball back to Methodist allowing Stephens to tie the game at nine with 22 seconds to play.
The Knights won the draw again and after a Neumann player ran into the crease, the Monarchs thought they had regained possession, but it was ruled a Methodist foul sending Neumann's Tiffany Baker to the 8-meter with nine seconds on the clock. Baker scored what would be the game-winning goal to give the Knights the 10-9 win.
Veeder paced the Monarchs with four goals while Stephens added three and Jurkovac scored two. Methodist goalkeeper
