BELTON, Texas - The Methodist University women's tennis team won their fourth straight match on Thursday with a 5-4 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Kaitlin Flaherty and Katherine Meindl lost 8-1 at doubles, but the Monarchs came back with wins at number two and three doubles to hold the 2-1 lead going into singles. Rachel Purser and Dana Powell won 8-4 at number two and Heather Brayton and Jennifer Hamel won 9-7 at number three.

Brayton lost 6-4, 6-0 at number four singles and Kelli Shelton gave Methodist the 3-2 lead with a 7-5, 6-3 win at number six singles. Mary Hardin-Baylor came back in number one and two singles to take the 4-3 lead. Meindl lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at number two and Flaherty lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles. Powell lost her first set 6-7 but came back to tie the match with 6-4, 6-2 wins for the number five singles match. Purser was behind 6-7 n the first set of the number three singles match before coming back to win 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the match victory.

The Monarchs continue their trip with a match at Southwestern University on Friday at 3 p.m.
