WINCHESTER, Va. - After playing to overtime on Friday, the Methodist and Shenandoah men's basketball teams played another tightly contested battle in the USA South Tournament quarterfinal, but it was Shenandoah on top this time, prevailing 60-56.

Shenandoah led by five on two different occasions during the first half, but the Monarchs always responded. In the final two minutes, sophomore Tanner Carnes put down a dunk and senior Tyler Sigman drained two free throws to tie the game at 25 at the break.

The Hornets built up a 45-38 lead during the first nine minutes of the second half, but a jumper from Methodist's Brian Sigman tied the game at 48 with 7:13 remaining. Both teams exchanged baskets for the remainder of the period. Sigman hit another free throw with 1:12 on the clock to cut the Shenandoah lead to two, but after regaining possession, turnovers proved costly. The Hornets finished with the 60-56 win to advance to the USA South Tournament semifinal on Friday at Christopher Newport University.

Carnes led the Monarchs with 16 points while Mark Jernigan added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sigman finished with 12 points against Shenandoah to give him 852 for his career.
