NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Mason Dixon Conference hosted the 2010 Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday with 10 teams competing at Christopher Newport University.

Ruby Blackwell was named Conference Athlete of the Year after winning the 55 meters (7.43), 200 meters (25.81) and 400 meters (1:00.19) races all in personal bests. Junior
Kristyn Zeiler won the mile and 5000 meters and placed fourth in the 800 meters. Zeiler finished the mile in a school record 5:07.85 and improved her school record time in the 800 meters to 2:25.60.
The women finished in fourth place with 54 points while Christopher Newport took the conference championship.
The men's team had a number of top-six finishers including three sprinters finishing second-fourth in the 55 meter dash.
Stefan Johnson placed second in 6.52 seconds and
Cedric McGill was third in 6.59 with
Greg Bailey placing fourth in 6.60 seconds. Johnson finished fourth in the 200 in 22.98 seconds and Bailey placed sixth in 23.40 seconds.
Petros Bein won the 55 meter hurdles in 7.78 seconds.
Alex Spencer placed second in the pole vault clearing 3.90 meters while
Pierson Singleton finished sixth in the long jump in 6.35 meters.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team finished third in 3:27.69. The men finished in fifth place with 50 points accumulated.
The Monarchs have the opportunity to compete at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet Mar. 6 before the NCAA Division III National Championships Mar. 12-13.
