FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference released the 2010 preseason poll on Wednesday with Methodist University picked to finish second this season.
Shenandoah University, under the direction of seventh-year Head Coach Kevin Anderson, was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2010 baseball title in the preseason coaches' poll. Last season, Shenandoah won the NCAA South Regional and reached the Division III World Series.
The Hornets received five of seven first-place votes (35 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Methodist University finished second in the balloting with 29 points while defending Conference regular season and tournament champion N.C. Wesleyan College placed third in the poll with 25 points and one first place vote. The final first place vote went to Christopher Newport University as the Captains earned a fourth-place finish in the poll with 24 points. Ferrum College, Greensboro College and Averett University, respectfully, rounded out the voting.
The 2010 campaign gets underway on Saturday, February 6th when the Monarchs travel to LaGrange College. Methodist head coach Tom Austin opened practice on Monday and welcomed back 13 letterwinners including six field starters.
The USA South regular season concludes April 3 and the tournament will be played April 15th - 18th in Burlington, N.C. at the Burlington Athletic Stadium.
