MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Mount Olive scored the game-winning goal in the final 15 minutes to slip by the Methodist men's soccer team 2-1.

Mount Olive (3-0) scored first in the 12th minute of play on a header off of a long service from midfield. The Monarchs (1-3) had an opportunity to tie the game after a foul in the box awarded Methodist senior Bret Brennan a penalty kick. Brennan converted the attempt to tie the game at one in the 28th minute.

Both teams had chances to break the tie in the second half, but it was Mount Olive who scored the game winner in the 79th minute on a 35-yard shot. The Monarchs kept pushing in the final minutes, but time expired with the Trojans holding on for the 2-1 win.

Methodist goalkeeper Kyle Beach made six saves while Zac Scott had three saves for Mount Olive.

The Monarchs will be back at home this weekend hosting the Soccer for a Cure Classic Sept. 12-13. Methodist opens with the first game against Emory on Saturday at 10 am.
