FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South has announced their Athletes of the Week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during that week.
Kyle Beach has been named the USA South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore goalkeeper from Tampa, Florida posted a shutout as the Monarchs defeated Marietta, 1-0, in the team's only action last week. Beach stopped five shots while going the distance in goal.
Whitney Roberson was selected as the USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The Kitty Hawk, North Carolina senior forward scored three goals last week as the Monarchs posted a 3-0 record. In a 2-1, double-overtime, win over Guilford, Roberson gave Methodist an early lead with a goal in the 4th minute. In a 3-1 win over Agnes Scott, Roberson was held scoreless but did manage three shots. Finally, in a 3-0 victory over Spelman, Roberson scored the first, and eventual game-winning, goal of the match in the 31st minute. She would add her second goal of the day in the 48th minute.
Kristyn Zeiler earned her third nod for USA South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. The junior from Lutherville, Maryland placed fifth at the ECU Pirate Invitational last week. Zeiler placed fifth out of 34 runners with a time of 18:54 on the 5K course.
Lindsey Davis was named the USA South Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The senior from Tarpon Springs, Florida tallied a 3-1 singles record and a 3-0 doubles mark at Methodist Fall Invitational last week. In the "A" singles bracket of the tournament, Davis won her opening match before falling into the consolations where she won her remaining two matches. In doubles action, Davis teamed with Dana Powell to win the "B" bracket with three consecutive victories.
