DANVILLE, Va. – The USA South Athletic Conference announced the 2009 football preseason coaches' poll. Defending champion, Christopher Newport University, has been picked to lead the league. Methodist University was chosen seventh receiving 14 points.
The Monarchs are coming off of a 2-8 overall record in 2008 and went 1-6 in the USA South. The Christopher Newport Captains were undefeated in the USA South last season and received seven of eight first place votes (49 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Maryville College was selected fifth with 25 points and Shenandoah was picked sixth with 23 points.
