FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The USA South has announced their Athletes of the Week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during that week.
Lindsey Cosgray has been named the USA South Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. The Middletown, Maryland junior goalkeeper helped the Monarchs to a 1-1 record last week by making 20 total saves while allowing 22 goals. In an 8-7 win over USA South foe Ferrum, Cosgray stopped seven shots and collected one groundball. In a 15-6 loss to USA South-leader Christopher Newport, Cosgray made 13 saves, collected a game-high seven groundballs and caused a game-high five turnovers.
Dylan Knox has been selected the USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The Lillington, North Carolina junior was 2-1 in singles action and 2-1 at the number-two doubles position last week for the Monarchs. Knox earned a singles win at the number-two position over USA South foe Shenandoah while a win at number-three came versus Bridgewater. In doubles play, Knox teamed with Rob Schmidt for wins over Shenandoah and Bridgewater.
Kaitlin Flaherty was chosen as the USA South Women's Tenins Player of the Week. The League City, Texas sophomore went 4-0 at both number-one singles and doubles last week for the Monarchs. Flaherty earned singles wins over top players from Peace, Bridgewater, Mary Baldwin and Shenandoah. In doubles action, Flaherty teamed with Shannon Vivian to earn the four victories.
Dana Powell has been named the USA South Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week. The Richmond, Virginia freshman went 4-0 at number-four singles and 4-0 at number-two doubles last week for the Monarchs. Powell earned singles wins over players from Peace, Bridgewater, Mary Baldwin and Shenandoah. In doubles action, Powell teamed with Lindsey Davis to earn the four victories.
