Monarchs Fall to Christopher Newport

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist Monarchs hosted their final women's lacrosse home game of the season on Saturday.  The team recognized their seniors prior to the game before the Captains took the 15-6 win.

Christopher Newport jumped out with two quick goals, but Methodist sophomore Amber Jurkovac drove down with a goal for the Monarchs to cut the lead in half. The Captains went on a six goal run before senior Andrea DiStefano scored for Methodist. Christopher Newport held an 11-2 lead at halftime.

The Captains scored the first two goals of the second half but DiStefano scored her second goal with 21:33 to go in the game. Christopher Newport added two more goals to lead 15-3, but Methodist came back with three goals of their own.  Jurkovac snuck another in while freshman Jasmine Stephens scored two goals in the final ten minutes.  The Captains finished with the 15-6 win.

Meghan Harkey led Christopher Newport with two goals and six assists for eight points.

Methodist goalkeeper Lindsey Cosgray made 13 saves and had five interceptions for caused turnovers.

Gayle Robinson and Kristen Duca combined for five saves for the Captains.

Methodist will finish out the regular season at Sweet Briar on Wednesday.
