FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist University started out strong and had the lead at halftime, but Peace College came back in the second half and won 60-55.
Methodist (14-8, 9-6) jumped out to to the 13-5 lead with 12:48 to go on 3-pointer from sophomore
Adriana Wilson. The Monarchs led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but Peace (10-13, 6-10) came back and tied the game at 26 with 23 seconds remaining in the half. Methodist junior
Michaela Myers banked in the 3-pointer with three seconds on the clock to give the Monarchs the 29-26 lead at halftime.
Peace tied the game right away in the second half, but the Monarchs regained a four point lead. Methodist senior
Dezzire Gilliard tied the game at 39 with two free throws, but Peace took over building their own six point advantage. The Monarchs'
Amanda Underwood drained the three with 1:13 on the clock to cut the lead to three but Methodist was forced to foul to get the ball back and Peace hit two free throws to finish with the 60-55 win.
Gilliard led the team in scoring with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore
Dawn Sanderson paced the Monarchs on the boards with 14 rebounds while Underwood scored 10 points.
The Monarchs will recognize their seniors in their final regular season home game Monday, Feb. 16 against N.C. Wesleyan at 5:30 pm.
