FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Earlier this semester, a proud Methodist alum donated the funds to purchase a Monarch statue to sit between the March F. Riddle Center and the Monarch Stadium.

"Our student-athletes and staff were delighted to have our new 'Monarch Pride' statue presented by a generous alum and put on display for all time in front of the Riddle Center," said Bob McEvoy director of athletics.

The statue includes a plaque to recognize the significance of the Monarch mascot:
"Given by a Methodist University alumnus to honor our coaches and student-athletes who have excelled in their respective sports both academically and athletically, and by so doing, have exhibited the skills, self-discipline, enthusiasm, cooperation, and good sportsmanship of champions. Go Monarchs!"
Thousands of student-athletes have competed as Methodist University Monarchs under the leadership of great coaches and the statue has become a symbol of their dedication to wearing the green and gold.

"As an athletic department, we are pleased and proud to know that others appreciate and respect our mission of the true student-athlete at MU, achieving success both in the classroom and on the fields of competition," McEvoy added. "The fact that a prominent alum made this special gift to the university to recognize our student-athletes and coaches on a job well done is much appreciated."
