SKILLMAN, N.J. - The United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that Methodist University Head Women's Tennis Coach Francie Barragan has been named the sectional winner of the USTA/ITA Community Outreach Award.
The USTA/ITA Community Outreach Award honors an ITA coach for significant contributions in developing community-based tennis programs through community centers, schools, parks, community tennis associations, inner city, suburban or rural programs.
Barragan was chosen as the southern sectional winner representing nine states for her work within the community, especially in volunteering and serving on the board for the USTA at the local and state levels.
Earlier this year, Barragan was selected as the Methodist University Coach of the Year after leading the women's tennis team to the 2009 USA South Championship. So far this year, the team is 2-0 and resumes play Feb. 21 against Huntingdon College.
