FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team battled back from an early 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 over Greensboro College.

The Monarchs (6-8, 2-1) out shot Greensboro (3-8-2, 1-2) 5-1 early in the first half, but the Pride took the 1-0 lead on a Methodist own goal in the 26th minute of play. The Monarchs came back and evened the score at one with a goal in the 51st minute from junior Darren Wilson.

In the 61st minute, junior Brion Kelly stepped up to take a free kick and found freshman Steve Harris on the back post who flicked it across the goal to senior Bret Brennan. Brennan slipped his shot past the Greensboro goalkeeper to give Methodist the 2-1 lead. Both teams had opportunities through the remainder of the second half, but the Monarchs held on for the win.

Methodist goalkeeper Kyle Beach made five saves in the win while Chad Adams had seven stops for the Pride.

The Monarchs will host Ferrum next Saturday at 3:30 pm in their final regular season home game.
