FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Vici Pate, Methodist University women's golf coach, has announced her resignation at the conclusion of the 2009 season. Her duties within the PGA Golf Management program finished at the end of October.
"Vici has done a great job with our women's golf program, not only in winning national titles, but also in emphasizing quality academic performance and good citizenship with her student-athletes,” said Bob McEvoy, Director of Athletics. “She has truly been a great role model, teacher and mentor to the student-athletes she has been associated with. We wish her the best in her future endeavors and are grateful for her good work and first class representation of our women's golf program while at Methodist University."
Pate took over the program in 2003 and has won an unprecedented six consecutive national championships during her career at Methodist. “What an honor it's been to coach in such a prestigious program and be associated with the fine women of Methodist University's golf program,” Pate said.
During Pate's time at the helm, not only has the team captured six titles, but three women have won four individual titles and the Monarchs have received 21 All-American honors. In both 2005 and 2006, Pate was named the National Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).
Pate has continued the tradition of success within the Methodist women's golf program. “The opportunities offered at Methodist are unparalleled to any other Division III university,” Pate added.
Pate will continue her role as head coach through the spring season preparing to host the 2009 National Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
